Last week, we posted 5 Things You Can Expect When You’re Expecting Sewer Repair. Having sewer replacement work done on your house can be daunting but knowing what you’re getting into and how to prevent extensive damage can help.
How do I know if my sewer is in bad shape?
“Oh, you’ll know. It’ll probably smell bad,” our Service Manager, Christina explains. If you have water backing up in your basement, if your drains are gurgling or running slowly, or if you smell weird smells when the drain is gurgling, you might need to have your sewer repaired or replaced.
A surefire way to tell if you need to have sewer repair or replacement is to have a plumber use a sewer camera. That’s when we make a video of the inside of your sewer. We then give you a report on how it’s doing and what you can expect.
Does root killer do anything?
Yes. Root killer is primarily made of copper sulfate. Copper sulfate is often the main ingredient used in solutions that treat weed growth in ponds and prevent algae growth in lakes.
Using root killers is an effective way to prevent roots from growing in your water line. Keep in mind that it typically won’t kill large roots that have already been growing in the line, but it’s a great way to provide preventative maintenance for your sewer.
What is a clean-out?
A clean-out provides an access point to your sewer line so you can snake it out and break up any roots or debris in the line.
Sometimes older homes must install a new clean-out because of the way homes were plumbed in the past. Many homes have a 4″ clean-out, but the line is a 6″. Snaking a 6″ line from a 4″ clean-out means you can’t do a sufficient line.
